Global community programmes

HSBC Youth Opportunities Programme

The HSBC Youth Opportunities Programme, formerly Future First, is HSBC's flagship global education programme that aims to provide marginalised children and young people aged 3-25 with access to education, vocational and life skills and a brighter future.

Established in 2006 with USD40 million of funding, the programme has already reached 953,071 beneficiaries in 62 countries, helping provide education to street children and children at risk and life skills to young people. HSBC confirmed a further USD9 million of funding for the period 2016-2018.

The programme is managed by the India Corporate Sustainability team for HSBC globally.

Organisations that have received support through this programme over the years include – Butterflies, Shoshit Seva Sangh, Salaam Baalak Mumbai and Delhi, SUPPORT, Doorstep, SAATH Charitable Trust, Bandhan Konnagar, Kherwadi Social Welfare Association and SOS Children’s Villages.

HSBC Chevening Scholarship

The Chevening-HSBC partnership dates back more than a decade and has supported more than 300 Chevening scholars. HSBC’s Global Education Programme contributes to up to 40 Chevening scholarships each year. Scholars are able to study for up to 12 months in the UK at postgraduate level.

Courses can be at any UK university and in any field, although the bias is towards finance or environment-related courses. Local HSBC representatives work closely with British Embassy or High Commission staff to interview and select high-quality scholars who meet HSBC and Chevening criteria.

In India, the HSBC Chevening Scholarship offers three full scholarships for a postgraduate Masters programme in any university in the UK in subjects relating to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s foreign policy priority of “building prosperity by increasing exports and investment, opening markets, ensuring access to resources, and promoting sustainable global growth”. Topics include finance, economics and environmental studies.

Asia-Pacific Business Case Competition

In 2016, HSBC India took part in the Asia-Pacific Business Case Competition, supported by HSBC Hong Kong, for the second time. HSBC partnered with SIFE India (now known as Enactus) to work with 60 colleges. Senior corporate representatives formed part of the jury in Mumbai where eight college teams participated in the semi-final and final round. A team from Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (SSCBS), Delhi, made it through to the finals in Hong Kong in June.
